Background
This is a walking book group with a twist: we discuss
selected texts whilst exploring on foot the locations in
which they are set. Initial ambles will be close to home,
potentially including parts of Islington, Bloomsbury and
the City. The group's first walks ventured to Clerkenwell,
the backdrop to George Gissing's classic Victorian novel
of the working class and the urban poor, "The Nether
World", and to Islington for Caroline
Beecham's contemporary novel "Maggie's Kitchen", set
during World War 2.
