When

Bi-monthly on the third Wednesday in the month from 2.00pm to 3.00pm.
Where

At a pub in Canonbury which is easily reached by bus.

In 2017 — its fourth year — the group concentrated on research and presentations since local walks and visits are now well catered for by other iU3a groups. Our meetings covered Memories of an Islington Childhood in the 40s/50s, Spa Green Estate, a visit to Canonbury Tower, An Activist in Islington, Continuity and Change along the River Lea, Upper Street research and participation in London and national research projects. All topics were enthralling in different ways and we are extremely grateful to the researchers, speakers and to co-ordinators Anne Wilkinson and Liz Simpson.

In 2018 the group focused on friendly shared discussion with a theme set for each month and each member making a brief (five minutes or so) contribution. The theme of the first meeting was “Where I Live” (house, building or street) and members brought a relevant document, photo or artefact to show. Themes suggested for meetings included lost shops, important Islingtonians, special trades in Islington such as silversmiths in Finsbury, blue plaque people.

For 2019 we plan to continue much as in 2018. More ideas — and members — always welcome!
