When

10.00 - 12.30 on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
Where

A Community Centre in Canonbury.

The second Painting and Drawing group has been running twice a month since March 2016. Under the tutelage of Ali Shipton, who has taught art for many years, a regular group of participants have been learning how to work in different media. Beginning with pens and inks, moving on to soft and oil pastels — the soft ones being easier and more enjoyable to use than the oils — and now working with acrylic paints, the group has been getting to grips with the different techniques needed.

Working in a large space in a community centre the group have worked from observation on still life compositions and have also brought in their own artefacts including a phrenology head, fabric and a giant pile of plastic lemons. The big mirrors around the centre have been used for self-portraits in charcoal and chalk.

While the centre is closed in August the group plan to take their sketchbooks and go outside to draw.
Come and see some of their work at the next iU3A Open Day.
